The beginning of the Scout year is getting close. Our first Service Unit Meeting is tomorrow, and our leader meeting is Tuesday. Our first meeting is probably going to be August 31st. So I'm trying to think of crafts, to keep the girls entertained while we have a parent meeting. The first one is braiding a friendship bracelet. (We tried the knotted kind of bracelet, and it did NOT go well.) This one looks very doable. I've set up a pdf with the instructions and the template to cut out - if I figure out how to add it to the blog, I will.
I'm going to take the bracelets to my leader meeting, so we can all make one. That'll be fun, plus I'll know that everyone will be able to help the girls.
We're trying something different this year for our meetings. In the past we've met weekly, for an hour. Our daisies meet on the 1st and 3rd weeks of the month, since that really is enough for them. This year, I'm going to have the Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors meet on the 2nd and 4th weeks, but for 2 hours. That should give us more time to handle more involved projects. Plus on those weeks, I will be working ONLY with the older girls. Last year, I tried to do the older girls and Juniors at the same time - and the older girls were severally neglected. Can't do that again... One of the asst leaders will handle the Juniors during meetings when I'm with the older girls.
